Viscera Cleanup Detail is a cleaning simulator by RuneStorm first released in 2015. Despite its age, it is a delightfully absurd game that leaves you asking, “Crap, did I check the ceiling for body parts?”
In the game, you play as a janitor assigned to clean up the aftermath of some horrific disaster. Many of the maps are based around cult classic horror and science fiction movies. In these maps, you can find plenty of easter eggs and fun nods to popular media. You utilize your mop and a rather powerful incinerator to clean up bodies, robots, blood splatters, oil, bullet casings, and whatever other goo is thrown your way. Once you clock out, you receive a score based on your thoroughness.
Viscera Cleanup Detail is a silly and oddly relaxing cleaning simulator. It can also be rather funny, whether you are accidentally blowing up your friends with explosive barrels or clipping through objects and sending them flying. The haphazard physics is more of a feature than a bug, as it makes every cleaning job that much more spontaneous when you never know where your bucket of blood water will end up.
I only have some minor issues with the game. Namely, I don’t particularly like using the elevators and occasionally viscera clips through the floor, making it impossible to clean. Something else to consider would be that there is no tutorial, so it may be helpful to read an online guide before beginning.
If you can stand cartoon gore and find wacky physics more funny than frustrating, I cannot recommend this game enough. Definitely one of my favorites! Find it on Steam for $13 here.
