2018’s Before I Wake is more of a long Twilight Zone episode than a feature length movie. The background subject matter of grief and the logic of a child is quite relatable. The actions of the adults around the child protagonist Jacob Tremblay are also understandable. The sci-fi elements are confusing at times and ultimately left unresolved.
More creepy than crawly, more suspenseful than scary, if you don’t mind “bump in the night” type narratives, give Before I Wake a try. With an IMDB rating of 6.6/10 and Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer of 61% and Audience Score of 46%, I give Before I Wake a 6.6/10.
