Sometimes it takes more than a big name success attached to your show to succeed and such is the case with the SyFy show Nightflyers. The George R. R. Martin adaptation premiered on SyFy in December of 2018 and was, reportedly, SyFy’s most expensive series to date, according to Variety.

Nightflyers, yet another George R. R. Martin adaptation

Nightflyers was an adaptation of a novella and series of stories by Game of Thrones creator George R. R. Martin for SyFy and for Netflix, internationally. The television adaptation follows the 2093 crew of a ship called the Nightflyer who seek to make first contact with alien life. The original novella by George R. R. Martin was published in 1980. Additionally, the novella was previously adapted into a feature film in 1987, though reception to it was mixed.

The now-defunct 2018 adaptation featured Gretchen Mol, Eoin macken, David Ajala, Sam Strike, Maya Eshet, Angus Sampson, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Brian F. O’Byrne. Reception of the 2018 adaptation was highly mixed, resulting in a current score of 35% on Rotten Tomatoes for the first season.
