At first glance, depending on where you look, 2013 or 2014’s Coherence is not what you would consider a typical horror movie. A mystery? Yes. A thriller? Sure. But there’s absolutely something horrifying about this multi-dimensional tale and all the twists and turns it takes you on.
For a solid chunk of the movie you’re not sure what the hell is happening. And by the end some things occur that are confusing, but ultimately don’t make the conclusion any less interesting.
Every 20 minutes there is a revelation. So even though the entire movie is a group of people talking it is somehow never boring.
This is currently my favorite psychological sci-fi thriller. It kept me thinking for days and the rewatch value is outstanding.
With an IMDB rating of 7.2/10 and Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer of 87% and Audience Score of 81%, I give Coherence a 8.9/10. This is the kind of movie I want to make. Bravo.
