FX just released a poster for the upcoming season of the horror anthology series American Horror Story. The upcoming tenth season, dubbed 1984, has featured a number of great, 1980s slasher tropes in the marketing.
Take, for example, this trailer that evokes the kind of teenage naivety that will result in a bunch of young idiots being slaughtered in the woods.
The official Instagram of AHS has even more teasers worth checking out as well.
A Cast to be Slaughtered
Like any season of the horror anthology, AHS: 1984 features a cast of returning players from previous seasons in addition to new faces. The team at AHS did a series of small “casting tapes” set to Dan Hartman’s “I Can Dream About You” with everyone in period-appropriate clothing.
Unfortunately, some staple actors in the AHS family will be absent for 1984. Evan Peters will not appear at all, while Sarah Paulson will have a very reduced role due to other commitments on a Ryan Murphy project, Ratched on Netflix. Billy Eichner, an addition in the past few seasons, will also not be making an appearance in 1984.
As for the cast for the upcoming season, returning faces include Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Cody Fern, Leslie Grossman, and John Carroll Lynch. New cast members include Gus Kenworthy, Matthew Morrison, DeRon Horton, and Zach Villa.
1984’s Retro Poster
Hey, we weren’t kidding about the retro nature of the poster. The key art resembles a VHS cassette cover that you would find in the horror section of a local Blockbuster video, right? The poster has shades, in particular, of John Carpenter’s Halloween and Sleepaway Camp.
American Horror Story: 1984 premieres September 18th on FX. Stay tuned to Haunted MTL for coverage of the show as it airs.
