Let’s get the horror train moving by checking out the regional release schedules on Shudder and our picks for each.
Shudder originals and exclusives will be presented in bold.
Shudder CA
A solid month of offerings in Canada this time around with plenty of classics and exclusives. It can be a bit tough to pick, but when we see that Joe Bob is back in town, well… So, our pick for February is Joe Bob Put a Spell On You. What two movies will be shown? Who the hell knows? We know it will air at around 6 PM PST on February 12th.
If I had to make a guess, I believe one of the films will be Anna Biller’s The Love Witch. Between the retro aesthetic, the dark comedy aspects, and the theme of the film, it would be just the right sort of movie for the special. So consider that an official Haunted MTL guess. In fact, I am so confident I will put the trailer for The Love Witch right here.

Shudder US
As usual, the US schedule is fairly similar to Canada’s, but there are some differences. The US loses Under the Skin and the two V/H/S films Canada gets for February but gets the exclusive After Midnight. So the highlight in the US schedule this month is After Midnight.
This film, directed by Jeremy Gardner and Christian Stella stars Jeremy Gardner, Brea Grant, and The Last Podcast on the Left‘s Henry Zebrowski.
When his girlfriend suddenly disappears, leaving a cryptic note as her only explanation, Hank’s comfortable life and his sanity begin to crack. Then, from the woods surrounding his house, something terrible starts trying to break in.
You can catch it on February 11th.

Shudder UK
Shudder UK doesn’t get as much this month, thanks to licenses and rights, but still lands three exclusives. So for February, I am gonna suggest the UK take a look at the social media horror of Shook. Something timely we can all relate to these days.
Directed by Jennifer Harrington, the film stars Nicola Posener, Grant Rosenmeyer, and Emily Goss.
When Mia, a social media star, becomes the target of an online terror campaign, she has to solve a series of games to prevent people she cares about from getting murdered. But is it real? Or is it just a game at her expense?
You can catch it on February 18th.

Shudder ANZ
Shudder ANZ gets a solid number of films, with batches of four or more landing on some days. Not a bad time to be a horror fan. As for exclusives, ANZ shares the UK’s exclusives, so our pick for the highlight is going to be The Dark and The Wicked, which closes out the month.
Directed by Bryan Bertino, the film stars Marin Ireland, Michael Abbott Jr., and Julie Oliver-Touchstone.
On a secluded farm in a nondescript rural town, a man is slowly dying. His family gathers to mourn, and soon a darkness grows, marked by waking nightmares and a growing sense that something evil is taking over the family.
You can catch it on February 25th.

If you live in the United States, it’s time to rock the vote for real. I shared this video before in conjunction with my identity-based costume work, and I feel it’s important to revisit now, with the election coming up in just a few days. Besides which, Jack Black and Tenacious D are brilliant and given the current political climate, who doesn’t want to do the time warp? But seriously, get out and rock the vote, your life kinda does depend on it (at least insomuch as being able to make for yourself the life that you want, without the government telling you how to do so – especially if you live on the fringes of socially acceptable awkwardness like me and so many of my friends).
Besides which, this video is so good, it’s worth sharing again anyway. And again, if for some reason the video doesn’t load, you can find it here.
Art Attack
And here are some artworks I made awhile back as political commentary. The photograph was shot of the scene exactly as found, of a sign above a parking lot in a quickly gentrifying neighborhood making sure all knew that any unauthorized vehicles were unwelcome, and hung right in front of a flag that was tattered and torn from being caught on the chain link fence driving the point home. The flags were meant to be interactive, with gallerygoers waving them while singing The Star Spangled Banner in its elitist entirety. The whole really spoke to me regarding some of the political climate at the time (this was right before Trump was elected President the first time). How much has changed since then? In some ways, a lot. In other ways, I guess we shall see.
