Stranger Things 4 is coming. Please feel free to include a high pitched fangirl squee here.

Season three was released on July 4th, 2019. For a Netflix series, that might as well have been last week. So I was pretty surprised to hear that we even had a trailer so early. Especially since there’s no release date yet and it’s not expected until 2021.

Nevertheless, we were given a Valentine’s Day gift of a teaser video just yesterday.

Squeeeee

I was pretty stoked about this. Until I watched it.

I guess they didn’t feel like being that generous.

We see the same Russian work camp we were introduced to in the stinger at the end of season three. There’s a cast of men working in a cold snowstorm. Then, as we pan through the men, we see a familiar face. It’s, gasp, Hopper.

I’m of two minds about this. On the one hand, whether Hopper was alive or dead was the biggest cliffhanger of the last season. I guess maybe some people are happy to know that he’s alive. I was just happy to see he got rid of the creepy dad ‘stash.

This reveal was both too much and too little at the same time. If you were questioning

whether or not Hopper was alive, then the biggest mystery is already revealed. If you, like me, didn’t think for one damned second that they were going to kill him off, then this teaser gave you nothing! We already knew there was a Russian group messing about with the Upside Down. We already knew they had Hopper. And we didn’t see a single dark and creepy monster.

Okay, maybe I’m being too hard on the teaser. It is the first one, after all. And while there’s nothing official, it’s probably more than a year out from season 4 even starting. And for die-hard fans, all they needed to do was send up a signal flare. The story, the conclusion, is coming. Don’t forget. If that’s all they were trying to do with this teaser, it succeeded.

If they wanted to do anything more, as I was hoping they would, they failed.
