The Plot

Rachel Krall is the host of her own true crime podcast, Guilty or Not Guilty. She became an overnight sensation after the first season of the podcast released an innocent man from prison. Rachel’s newest venture is a trial in the small town of Neapolis, North Carolina where Scott Blair is accused of rape.

Scott Blair is the town’s golden child, a swimming champion training for the Olympics. When Kelly accuses him of rape, the town’s opinion is divided. Rachel attends the trial, making her viewers feel as if they are inside the jury box.

While Rachel is creating her podcast around the rape trial, mysterious letters begin appearing on her car and at her hotel room. Hannah Stills, sister of the deceased Jenny Stills, insists that her sister’s death was not an accidental drowning, but rather murder. Rachel is intrigued and Hannah believes that with Rachel’s expertise, she can get closure.

The Verdict

I am the biggest fan of Megan Goldin. She always gets a five star rating out of me. I am engrossed and neglect everything else in my life to spend a little time with any book Megan Goldin writes. Seriously, I cannot praise her enough.

Goldin is a masterful thriller writer, blurring the lines between social commentary and spine-chilling action. She is stellar at shifting viewpoints and the reader races along the page to devour more. She makes important advances when considering such a difficult topic such as the conviction of rapists. Kelly and Jenny will be avenged and Rachel will make sure of it.
