Last season I worried that Dexter was getting cocky. He was starting to think that God was looking out for him, even though he doesn’t believe in God. He’d defeated some pretty big obstacles, and not all on his own.
That wasn’t going to last. And the first two episodes of season three have reminded Dexter that, while he is a monster, he’s still human.
And humans do things like having unprotected sex and get their girlfriends pregnant. They also sometimes make pretty major mistakes.
Like killing the baby brother of the ADA, for instance.
Dexter is still trying to make things right, at least in his mind, after killing Oscar Prado. The best way he knows to do that is to kill Freebo.
But he’s also got a pretty major decision to figure out with Rita. She’s pregnant, and they’ve got to figure out what to do about it.
And that’s a tricky situation, isn’t it? I mean, they just got back together after a pretty rocky time. And now there’s a baby to consider. Dexter is worried that he’s not going to be a good dad. Because he didn’t have the best example.
Also because, you know, he kills people.
This would all be so much easier if DA Prado wasn’t taking so much of an interest in Dexter. Inviting him to dinner, checking in on him at work. Prado was touched by Dexter’s interest in Oscar’s death. Of course, he has no idea that it’s because Dexter kills him.
As usual, Dexter’s too wrapped up in his own matters to notice anything around him. Like Masuka’s article, which has come up too many times for it to be a passing thing. Especially since Dexter said he read it, and he didn’t.
He also has no idea that Debra is being hounded by internal affairs. They’re after her new partner, Quinn, but no one wants to tell her why.
Quinn’s being sort of questionable. He’s been trying to help Deb, telling her about a CI named Anton who might help her with her current case. But when Deb goes to see him without Quinn, he gets hot under the collar. Is he upset because Deb might have risked Anton’s life? Or is it because he has something to hide?
And when is Dexter going to tell Deb about the baby? She is going to be so pissed that he told Angel first.
