It’s a very special rundown of what Shudder has on offer for the month of April. Why is that you ask? It’s because Joe Bob is back in town. Of course, it’s not just Joe Bob this month, either. Shudder is going all out with their Halfway to Halloween theme and they’re bringing on some movies and brand new series.

So, let’s dive in.

Friday the 13th Parts 1-8 (1980 – 1989)

Yes, Shudder has added the first eight Friday the 13th films. This collection is something that would have totally made the month for me on it’s own, but the fact is that is is just part of what is on offer for April.

While the films vary wildly in quality, you absolutely cannot go wrong with the original, the first two sequels, and the sixth installment of the series. I personally have a soft spot for Jason Takes Manhattan as well.

Hello Jason!

Elvira: Mistress of the Dark (1988)

One of the most popular horror hosts ever also had a series of movies of her own. Cassandra Peterson plays Elvira (who else?) in her feature-film debut. Peterson also was one of the co-writers, working with John Paragon and Sam Egan. The movie was directed by James Signorelli and it’s a pretty fun and kitschy horror-comedy.

Mistress of the Dark follows Elvira as she leaves her studio job to start an act in Vegas, but the revelation of an inheritance from her great-aunt diverts her to Fallwell, Massachusetts. We also get to see a badass poodle named Algonquin.

The movie is just so damn fun. Give it a watch, won’t you?

Cursed Films (New Series)

Shudder’s newest documentary series, on the heels of Horror Noire is Cursed Films. This new series examines films that are reported to be cursed. This first batch includes the following classics: The Exorcist, Poltergeist, The Omen, The Crow, and Twilight Zone: The Movie.

Expect this series to be covered here on Haunted MTL.

The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs (Season 2)

If you’ve been following my posts here at Haunted MTL it is pretty obvious that my excitement for The Last Drive-In is total. As for what is ahead, we don’t know a whole hell of a lot, but since when does that stop us from getting hyped up?

What else is on this month?

As always, Shudder helpfully shares its release schedule for various regions. Please check out the schedule below for the full details of the US, UK, and Canada releases.

Excited about this month on Shudder? Let us know what you are looking forward to.
