Columbia Pictures’ anticipated sequel to the 2009 Zombie comedy, Zombieland, returns to the big screen this Friday and it looks as great as the original!
The film takes place 10 years after the events of the first film, but with stronger and more evolved zombies, as well as the possible threat of other survivors.
…in an America overrun by zombies, survivors Tallahassee, Columbus, Wichita, and Little Rock have become experts in identifying and disposing of various zombies. Visiting the abandoned White House, Columbus decides to propose to Wichita using the Hope Diamond, while Tallahassee rebuffs Little Rock’s hopes of meeting a boy and starting her own family. The next morning, Tallahassee finds a note from Wichita and Little Rock, who have left due to Little Rock feeling Tallahassee still treats her like a child, and Wichita’s fear she is too attached to Columbus.
If it seems like Zombie movies are played out and possibly cliche, you’re right. And that’s what makes Fleischer’s take on the genre so entertaining. Any zombie horror tropes you can think of are in this movie and Zombieland benefits greatly from it. I love a play on typical tropes so this is a plus for me.
The same cast returns to form with a few newcomers along the way. Written by Dave Callaham, Rhett Reese, and Paul Wernick, the movie feels a lot like what made the first so well-liked and director Ruben Fleischer really captured the original horror, action, and comedy we’ve come to expect from Zombieland. Returning are the four main cast members, consisting of Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin along with Zoey Deutch and Rosario Dawson.
